MarketWatch (16/7) NEW YORK -- U.S.
stocks posted modest gains on Monday, with the S&P 500 and the Dow
Jones Industrial Average climbing to record closing highs, after banking
giant Citigroup Inc. reported better-than-expected earnings and China's
second-quarter growth matched expectations. At 4 p.m. Eastern, the
S&P 500 was up 2.38 points, or 0.1%, to 1,682.48, rising for an 8th
consecutive session. The Dow industrials gained 20 points, or 0.1%, to
15,484.34 and the Nasdaq Composite index climbed 7.41 points, or 0.2%,
to 3,607.49.
