Asian Stocks Head for Largest Weekly Drop Since October
Bloomberg (22/3) - Asian stocks fell, with the regional equities gauge heading for its biggest weekly decline since October, as scuffles on the streets of Nicosia underscored concern that Europe’s debt crisis is worsening.

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index (MXAP) lost 0.3 percent to 134.79 as of 9:23 a.m. in Tokyo, before markets open in Hong Kong and China. The gauge is heading for a 1.4 percent decline this week as Cyprus scrambles to avoid a collapse of its banking system and reports showed Europe’s manufacturing decline steepening.

Saham Jepang Jatuh Seiring Penguatan Yen Terhadap BOJ
Bloomberg (22/3) – Saham Jepang jatuh, dengan Index Nikkei 225 sedang menuju penurunan mingguan terbesrnya dalam enam minggu, seiringan dengan yen yang naik setelah gubernur BOJ yang baru gagal mengumumkan stimulus dan seiring Cyprus berlomba untuk mencari rencana bailout.
Index Nikkei 225 turun 1% ke level 12,513.69 pada jam 9:04 pagi di Tokyo, menuju penurunan sebesar 0.5% pada pekan ini, sementara Index Topix merosot sebanyak 0.7% ke level 1,051.16, dengan semua kecuali 33 group industri yang mengalami penurunan.(tito)

Japan Shares Fall as Yen Strengthens on BOJ, Euro Concern
Bloomberg (22/3) - Japan shares fell, with the Nikkei 225 Stock Average heading for its first weekly decline in six weeks, as the yen rose after the new Bank of Japan (8301) governor failed to announce stimulus and as Cyprus raced to find a bailout plan.

The Nikkei 225 fell 1 percent to 12,513.69 as of 9:04 a.m. in Tokyo, heading for a 0.5 percent decline on the week. The Topix Index slid 0.7 percent to 1,051.16, with all but three of its 33 industry groups declining.

Hong Kong Stocks Drop as Cyprus Concern Overshadows China Data
Bloomberg, (21/3) -- Hong Kong stocks fell, with the city’s benchmark index heading for a second week of decline, as concern that financial woes in Cyprus might reignite Europe’s debt crisis overshadowed a report China’s manufacturing is expanding at a faster pace.

Esprit Holdings Ltd., a Hong Kong-based that’s most dependent Europe, slid 2.2 percent as Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades sought a new bailout plan. Tencent Holdings Ltd., China’s biggest Internet company, sank 4 percent after analysts from Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. cut their price targets. Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Ltd., the world’s biggest jeweler by market value, added 1.9 percent after Barclays Plc said sales will improve.

The Hang Seng Index slipped 0.1 percent to 22,225.88 at the close, erasing an advance of as much as 0.7 percent. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index dropped 0.3 percent to 10,944.35, after gaining as much as 1.2 percent. The gauges jumped earlier today as a Chinese Purchasing Managers’ Index expanded faster than analyst estimates.

“While the China PMI lifted the market earlier, it seems the Cyprus situation is continuing to drag market sentiment,” said Jackson Wong, vice president at Hong Kong-based brokerage Tanrich Securities Co. “Investors are probably waiting for the Cyprus situation to be resolved. We’re still in a consolidation phase.”

Yen Naik Seiring Penyempitan Jarak Perdagangan Jepang
Bloomberg (21/3) – Yen naik, memangkas penurunan kemarin, setelah sebuah laporan menunjukkan defisit perdagangan Jepang mempersempit lebih dari perkiraan dan seiring market menunggu briefing pers dari Haruhiko Kuroda sebagai gubernur bank sentral.

Mata uang Jepang diperdagangkan 1% dari level rendah 3 1/2 tahun versus dollar setelah Kuroda mengatakan kepada para reporter bahwa dia akan bicara tentang kebijakan moneter pada sebuah konferensi berita pada jam 6 siang di Tokyo, sementara dollar New Zealand naik terhadap seluruh pesaing pembanding besarnya mengacu pada laporan yang menunjukkan kondisi ekonominya yang berkembang lebih cepat dari prediksi dan pertumbuhan sektor manufaktur melampaui estimasi di China.

Yen bertambah 0.3% ke level 95.77 per dollar pada jam 7:05 pagi, di London dan setelah mencapai level 96.71 pada tanggal 12 Maret, level terendahnya sejak bulan Agustus 2009 yang naik 0.2% ke level 123.93 per euro dari kemarin, ketika itu turun 1.3%, euro bertambah 0.1% ke level $1.2941.

Tingkat yen efektif BOJ turun ke level 83. Dibulan Februari, level terendahnya sejak bulan Agustus 2008, berdasarkan data dari bank sentral, rate tersebut dikalkulasikan berdasarkan pada nilai dari perdagangan Jepang dengan Negara-negara lainnya, menyesuaikan dengan harga Index Negara tersebut beserta partnernya.(tito)
