Japanese Stocks Rise Second Day on Optimism for Global Stimulus

Posted by PT KONTAK PERKASA FUTURES BALIKPAPAN On 5:09 PM No comments

Japanese stocks rose for a second day on speculation central banks will support growth even as the U.S. economy shows signs of strengthening.
The Topix index jumped 0.7 percent to 1,387.23 as of 9:02 a.m. in Tokyo, headed for the biggest two-day rally in almost three weeks. The Nikkei 225 Stock Average added 1 percent to 17,342.65. The yen slid 0.1 percent to 119.80 per dollar after yesterday falling 0.3 percent. The euro sank to the lowest in nine years against the dollar after the European Central Bank hinted it may soon begin buying government bonds. The Standard & Poor™s 500 Index erased 2015 losses yesterday as investors took comfort the Federal Reserve will act cautiously when considering the timeframe for interest-rate increases.
ECB President Mario Draghi said in a letter published on the bank™s website that policy makers may undertake measures including buying sovereign bonds. Factory data from Germany, which narrowly avoided a recession in the middle of 2014, added to evidence Europe is in an economic slump and strengthened the case for stimulus from the ECB, which meets on Jan. 22.
Since minutes from the Fed™s December meeting were released on Jan. 7, yields on 10-year Treasuries have remained depressed near 18-month lows, indicating less expectation of higher interest rates. That™s boosted risk sentiment in equities, with the MSCI World Index jumping 2.4 percent over the past two days.
A government report on U.S. employment will be released today, with economists expecting an increase of 240,000 jobs, after last month™s surge of 321,000 stoked optimism in the world™s largest economy. Futures on the Standard & Poor™s 500 Index slipped 0.1 percent today after the underlying gauge advanced 1.8 percent yesterday.

Dolar Menguat Terhadap Euro Jelang Rilis Data Payrolls

Posted by PT KONTAK PERKASA FUTURES BALIKPAPAN On 5:05 PM No comments

Dolar terapresiasi 0,1% menjadi 119,80 yen.

Gold Volatility Climbs to One-Year High on U.S.-Europe Divide

Posted by PT KONTAK PERKASA FUTURES BALIKPAPAN On 5:04 PM No comments

The dividing economic outlook between the U.S. and Europe is spurring the biggest swings for gold prices in a year as investors assess the prospect of higher American interest rates against the outlook for more global stimulus.

The metal™s 60-day historical volatility is near 18.8, the highest since January 2014. Futures settled lower after swinging between gains as losses today as a slowdown for German factory orders spurred declines for the euro, while fewer Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week.

Bullion in 2014 posted a consecutive annual decline for the first time since 1998 as gains in the U.S. economy signaled prospects for higher interest rates, cutting demand for the metal as store of value. Prices have rallied about 7 percent since falling to a four-year low in November amid political upheaval in Greece and expectations for increased economic stimulus in Europe and China.

Gold futures for delivery in February declined 0.2 percent to settle at $1,208.50 an ounce at 1:47 p.m. on the Comex in New York, after rising as much as 0.5 percent. Last year, gold declined 1.5 percent.

S&P 500 Erases Loss for Year as U.S. Stocks Rally for Second Day

Posted by PT KONTAK PERKASA FUTURES BALIKPAPAN On 5:00 PM No comments

The Standard & Poor™s 500 Index rallied a second day, wiping out its losses for the year, on speculation central banks will support growth even as the American economy shows signs of strength.
The S&P 500 added 1.6 percent to 2,058.84 at 12:03 p.m. in New York, after rallying 1.2 percent yesterday to halt a five-day selloff. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 285.04 points, or 1.6 percent, to 17,869.56, also erasing its loss for 2015. Trading in S&P 500 companies was 17 percent above the 30-day average for this time of the day.
The S&P 500 has gained 2.8 percent over two days, following the worst start to a year since 2008. The benchmark index has recovered more than half its losses after tumbling 4.2 percent over the previous five days as crude oil plunged below $48 a barrel for the first time since 2009.
Equities rallied yesterday on relief that Federal Reserve minutes signaled no change in interest-rate policy and optimism over employment growth. Most central bank officials agreed their new policy guidance means they are unlikely to raise interest rates before late April and a number expressed concern inflation could remain too low.
The minutes also showed some Fed officials are concerned about risks posed by overseas economies. Policy actions by foreign central banks may help, the minutes said.
