U.S. stocks end up; Nasdaq gains 1.5% for week

MarketWatch (24/8) - SAN FRANCISCO - U.S. stocks ended higher Friday, shaking off early losses after a disappointing existing home sales report, as some investors took the data as a factor that could delay the start of the Federal Reserve's reduced bond purchases. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose nearly 47 points, or 0.3%, to 15,011, helped by a 7.8% rise in Microsoft Corp. The S&P 500 gained 6.5 points, or 0.4%, to 1,663.5. The Nasdaq Composite rose 19.09 points, or 0.5%, to 3,657.79. The Dow lost less than 1% for the week, its third week of losses, for the longest weekly losing streak of the year. The S&P 500 was up 0.5% for the week, its first up week in three. Gold Tops $1,400 After Housing Slump Spurs Stimulus Bets

Bloomberg (24/8) - Gold jumped to a 11-week high, topping $1,400 an ounce in spot trading, as sales of new U.S. homes fell more than forecast, boosting speculation that the Federal Reserve will maintain economic stimulus. Sales of newly built homes in July plunged more than 13 percent, the most in more than three years, government data showed today. The 394,000 annualized pace compared with a drop to 487,000 forecast by analysts in a Bloomberg survey. Fed policy makers said they are “broadly comfortable” in scaling back debt purchase if the economy strengthens. Gold for immediate delivery rose 1.5 percent to $1,396.30 at 3:55 p.m. New York time. Earlier, the price reached $1,400.38, the highest since June 7. MarketWatch (24/8) - SAN FRANCISCO – Saham-saham A.S berakhir naik dihari Jumat, mengibaskan penurunan sebelumnya setelah dirilisnya laporan penjualan rumah lama yang cukup mengecewakan, seiring dengan beberapa investor yang menganggap data tersebut sebagai sebuah faktor yang dapat menunda awal dimulainya pengurangan pembelian obligasi oleh pihak the Fed. Dow Jones Industrial Average naik hampir sebanyak 0.3% sejumlah 47 poin menuju ke level 15.011, yang terbantu oleh sebuah peningkatan sebesar 7.8% dari Microsoft Corp. Sementara itu Index S&P 500 gain sebanyak 0.4% sejumlah 6.5 poin menuju ke level 1.663.5, Index Nasdaq Composite naik sebanyak 0.5% sejumlah19.09 poin menuju ke level 3.657.79. Emas Mencapai $1,400 Pasca Merosotnya Perumahan Memicu Taruhan Stimulus

Bloomberg (24/8) – Komoditi emas melonjak menuju 11 pekan tertinggi, mencapai level harga $1,400 per ons dalam perdagangan spot, seiring dengan penjualan perumahan baru di A.S yang jatuh melebihi perkiraan, memicu spekulasi bahwa the Fed akan mempertahankan stimulus ekonomi. Penjualan perumahan yang baru dibangun pada bulan Juli anjlok lebih dari 13%, yang terbanyak selama lebih dari tiga tahun terakhir, berdasarkan dari data pemerintah, laju tahunan sebanyak 394,000 yang dibandingkan dengan sebuah penurunan menuju perkiraan sebanyak 487,000 oleh para analis dalam survey Bloomberg, sementara itu para pihak otoritas mengatakan secara luas bahwa mereka “nyaman” dalam mempertimbangkan kembali pembelian surat hutang jika kondisi ekonomi menguat. Sementara itu emas untuk pengiriman cepat naik sebanyak 1.5% menuju ke level harga $1,396.30 pada jam 3:55 siang waktu New York, dimana sebelumnya harga tersebut sempat mencapai ke level harga $1,400.38, yang tertinggi sejak tanggal 7 Juni yang lalu.
