SAN FRANCISCO (24/10) - MarketWatch -- U.S. stocks closed lower Wednesday as mixed earnings reports knocked markets away from record levels.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 54.33 points, or 0.4%, to close at 15,413.33, with shares of Caterpillar Inc., which closed down 6%, dragging on the index.
The S&P 500 Index finished the day down 8.29 points, or 0.5%, at 1,746.38, with energy and financial stocks the biggest decliners.
The Nasdaq Composite Index declined 22.49 points, or 0.6%, to close at 3,907.07, near its session high of 3,911.64.
